Extra security called to area schools after anonymous threats

JONESBORO,AR (KAIT) - There is an additional police force at several area schools Mondayafter vague threats made.

Justin Rolland with the Craighead County Sheriff's Departmenttells Region 8 News the added security measures stem from threats made onsocial media by a juvenile. Rolland says the unnamed juvenile was arrested andcharged with terroristic threatening. The person arrested was charged as ajuvenile.

Thearrested happened a month ago but rumors caused several school districts totake extra precaution.

No specific schools were threatened. However, it was enough toraise concern by school officials to notify authorities.

Several schools sent notifications to parents Monday morning toinform them of the additional police presence. According to one notification,"anonymous threats were made to northeast Arkansas schools".

GreeneCounty Tech Superintendent, Jerry Noble, was one of those who chose to increasesecurity Monday.

"We had extra policepresent," he said. "We installed buzz in systems last year and made sure thosewho are in charge of letting people in the building, identified those peoplebefore letting them in."

Analert was also sent to parents explaining why there would be extra patrolmen.

"Themore information you can get out there the better off because you can put astop to the rumors," Noble said.
