ADAIR COUNTY, KY (WAVE) – A nine-year-old boy has returned home, four months after 95% of his body was severely burned in a garage fire.

Dawson Fisher returned back home to Adair County Monday night with the help of police, EMS and fire escorts. As he traveled to the local hospital, the family's van was surrounded. As Fisher stepped out and faced the crowd of family, friends and first responders, he became the center of a welcome home celebration for the town's youngest fighter.

In December, Fisher nearly died when a fuel tank being removed from a van caught fire and engulfed the young boy. For months since that day, Fisher has been through 20 surgeries and has been living out of the Cincinnati Hospital's burn unit. Fisher never lost hope, and his upon his return to Adair County, he wanted to thank everyone who saved his life. There was a cake for the emergency responders along with Fisher's gratitude.

Fisher hopes to get back to being just a child, to see friends and return to school this fall. He will be returning to Cincinnati Hospital every few weeks for procedures and annual checkups for the next 11 years.

Fisher's school is taking donations to help with medical bills and transportation to and from Cincinnati. You may write a check to the ACPS Social Fund and mail to:
