LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - A miracle revealed a few weeks before Easter continues to radiate worldwide - paralysis may not last forever.
The University of Louisville created the buzz with groundbreaking experimental research that creates hope for millions worldwide who lack control over their lower limbs.
Up to now, spinal cord injuries meant permanent paralysis.
The breakthrough comes via an implanted electronic device that sends an electric current through the spine to reconnect signals between the legs and the brain.
Four men who had been paralyzed for two to four years and were told they would never move their legs again, lifted their legs, flexed their ankles and knees, and stood.
UofL researchers teamed with researchers at UCLA and other partners to make it happen.
Much more work is needed by the research team to refine their study and continue progress for these men, and for others they are recruiting, but hats off to the brilliant leadership role taken by the University of Louisville in making this happen!
