Cueto pitches Reds by Pirates 4-1

Posted: Updated:

Johnny Cueto pitched his second consecutive complete game and the Reds evened their four game series in Pittsburgh with a 4-1 win on Tuesday.

Cueto, who took a shut out into the 9th inning, gave up a solo home run to Andrew McCutchen. Cueto stayed in the game to finish the final inning and raised his arms to the sky after recording the final out.

"I just tried to go out there and compete and go out there and do my job and not worry about nothing else," said Cueto after his first appearance in Pittsburgh since his playoff loss to the Pirates last October.  "I just tried to go out there and give my team a chance."

Cueto also drove in a run with an RBI single.  He lowered his season ERA to 1.38.

Billy Hamilton, Jay Bruce and Brayan Pena all had multi-hit games as the Reds hung the loss on former Cincinnati starting pitcher Edinson Volquez.

The Reds improve to 9-11 on the season.
