A suspect authorities took into custody in connection with an officer-involved shooting in Goodyear late Wednesday morning has died at the hospital, according to the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office.
Authorities identified the suspect Wednesday afternoon as 26-year-old Jesus Chacon.
The shooting happened about 11:30 a.m. at a Circle K convenience store near Litchfield and Interstate 10.
MCSO spokesman Lt. Brandon Jones said none of MCSO's deputies were hurt.
Chacon approached sheriff's deputies and pulled out a weapon, Jones said. That's when deputies opened fire.
Jones said Chacon had been identified as a "person of interest" in the death of Mark Meginley, 51, whose body was found along a road in Buckeye last week.
Chacon was also accused in a burglary where a weapon was stolen. The stolen weapon was used to kill Meginley, MCSO said.
It's unclear if Chacon had the same weapon on him on Wednesday.
