Riverdale H.S. educational assistant faces several charges

MURFREESBORO, TN (WSMV) -
A Rutherford County Schools educational assistant has been suspended without pay after he was accused of misconduct involving at least one student, the district said Thursday.
Maurice C. O'Neal, 27, of Christiana, was charged with official misconduct, extortion and assault.
O'Neal is as an educational assistant at Riverdale High School in Murfreesboro and has been employed by the district since September 2012.
The allegations were first reported to a school resource officer, and a search warrant conducted by the sheriff's office corroborated the allegations, officials said. Further details on the investigation have not been released.
O'Neal remains jailed on $35,000 bond and is due in general sessions court May 29.
