LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – A 13-year-old was pinned to a guardrail and two drivers were injured in an accident involving three vehicles in the northbound lanes of Interstate 71, according to Louisville Metro police.

According to MetroSafe, the wreck happened at 9:45 p.m. Thursday on I-71 at the 2 mile marker, near Zorn Avenue.

Police said a vehicle that appeared to be broken down on the side of the interstate was rear-ended by a second vehicle. The impact pushed the broken down vehicle into the guardrail, pinning the 13-year-old that was standing outside of the vehicle. A third vehicle then clipped the second vehicle.

The 13-year-old was taken to University of Louisville Hospital with serious injuries. The driver of the stalled vehicle and the driver of the second vehicle involved were also taken to University of Louisville Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Officers are continuing to investigate the case and said charges may be filed.
