LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - Two people from Elizabethtown were arrested at a Florida truck stop after authorities received a tip about a man who was wanted by police in Kentucky.

Deputies who responded to the 231 Truck Plaza in Bay County, Florida on Thursday said they approached a red Toyota Highlander and tried to make contact with 27-year-old Jonalan Chival. When Chival saw them, he jumped out the driver's seat and ran into a nearby wooded area.

A K-9 was brought to the scene. The dog managed to track Chival, who was taken into custody.

Authorities said a woman named Sarah Mooney and a child were also in the vehicle, which deputies discovered had been stolen in Kentucky. The Department of Children and Families responded to the truck stop and took the child into temporary custody.

Deputies said they learned the child been abused by Chival. The child had red, black and blue marks and also cuts all over his body.

Chival was charged with felony battery, resisting an officer without violence and aggravated child abuse.

Mooney, 26, was also arrested. She is charged with child neglect and grand theft.
