LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - Three Louisville Metro police officers who shot a man suspected of breaking into an apartment have been placed on administrative duty.

The shooting happened April 18. Around 4:20 a.m., officers Yang Kong Lee, Donald Hillerich and Raphael Williams were dispatched to a break-in run at the Millwood Apartments on Huntington Park Drive, just off Poplar Level Road.

Two people were inside the apartment at the time when they say a man, who they did not know, forced his way inside and began waving a weapon. Both occupants were able to escape and call 911.

Police say the suspect was waving a gun in the air before the officers opened fire and hit him. He was rushed to University Hospital and is expected to recover.

LMPD said it is standard procedure for officers involved in shootings to be placed on temporary administrative duty pending the outcome of an internal investigation.
