LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - A grandmother tears up as her 4-year-old grandson fights for his life, accidentally shooting himself in the face.

"As soon as I found out, I just left the house and was on my way down here," the boy's aunt, Eboney Thompson told WAVE 3 News.

Four-year-old Kamarion Posey was rushed to Kosair Hospital after his mom called 911 around 3:30 in the afternoon. Shortly after the family gathered at the home.

"I don't know how to feel. I'm numb. And my main concern right now is my nephew. That's it," Thompson said.

Police say the boy's mom was the only adult in the home. Kamarion's 2-year-old sister and 3-month-old half brother there too. Neither one of them were hurt.

Police didn't give any info about the gun, where it was, whether it was locked, or who it belongs to - questions the boy's family and friends also wanted answers to.

"When a kid gets shot, and he shoots himself, the fact is, it should have been prevented, from the whole jump," family friend Andre Mulligan said.

Neighbors were out as soon as they heard the sirens.

"You would think that they learned from other cases of kids playing with guns. It's just sad, people got to do more, it's just sad," neighbor Dayvon Cowheard told WAVE 3 News.

Kamarion's grandma told us he had just gotten a haircut. His aunt described him as a spunky 4-year-old year old who loved his family and toy cars. The family now clinging to hope, asking but one thing from others.

"Prayers, and a lot of them. We are going to need them," Thompson said.

The homicide unit is now investigating because of how gravely the boy was injured. Police did release that they recovered a gun from the home, though they didn't say how it was being kept. Authorities haven't yet said if there will be any charges filed against the mom.
