Man struck by truck, killed while attempting to cross Interstate 55

PONCHATOULA, LA (WVUE) -- Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop L are investigating an incident where a pedestrian was struck by a car and killed, while trying to cross Interstate 55. The incident occurred Saturday, just after 8:00 p.m. on Interstate 55 near Highway 22 in Ponchatoula. The victim has been identified as 20-year-old Lavarius Grisby of Ponchatoula.

Police say that a pickup truck, driven by Mike Green of Avondale was traveling south on I-55. Grisby, who was heading west while crossing the interstate, walked into the path of Green's pickup and was struck. The Tangipahoa Parish Coroner's Office pronounced Grisby dead on the scene. At the time of the accident, he was wearing dark-colored clothing and was walking with several pedestrians.

Troopers conducted a breath test on Green and found no detectable alcohol. Investigators also collected a blood sample from Grisby and tests will be run by the LSP Crime Lab for a toxicological analysis.

The crash remains under investigation.
