LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – When Louisville Metro Police officers saw a man riding a bicycle recklessly, they tried to pull him over. He, however, had other ideas.

On the afternoon of April 25 officers saw Devante V. Shields, 20, riding the bicycle on Goldsmith Lane. Detectives from the LMPD VIPER Unit said Shields was weaving across lanes and riding down the center line of the roadway.

When they turned on their lights and siren, the detectives said Shields looked back at them and fled down Terrill Lane.

Shields eventually bailed from the bicycle and continued to flee on foot while tossing items, including a cell phone and dice, from his pockets. Police said Shields tried to hide a .38 caliber handgun in a bush after he took it off a keystrap around his neck.

Shields was finally arrested in the parking lot of an apartment complex. He was booked at Louisville Metro Corrections on charges of fleeing and evading police, disorderly conduct, tampering with physical evidence and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
