LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - For Senator Rand Paul, (R-KY), it wasn't a typical lunch meeting. Instead of gathering around a table with his constituents, the Kentucky Junior Senator spent Monday walking the halls of the West End School.

With West End School Administrator Robert Blair leading the way, Senator Paul toured section after section of the West Louisville gem that's garnered national attention.

"It was a big fundraiser in Washington D.C. called Taste of the South," began Blair. "One of our graduates went to speak. There was much of the congressional delegation there. It's an annual fundraiser. We were the recipient this year."

Having begun the West End School with his wife, Blair not only pointed out areas in need of work during the tour, but also highlighted forthcoming growth.

"We're building a gym called the Darrell Griffith Athletic Center named for Darrell Griffith who went to school here, is a board member here, grew up just down the street," said Blair to Senator Paul.

In addition to preparing its all-boy population of students, from kindergarten through eighth grade, for college, the West End School is also home to 20 middle-schoolers living in its dorms.

"It's innovative. It's meeting a need," said Senator Paul. "You come here and you think, 'gosh, how can we have two or three or 10 schools like this?,' because it's doing such a good job."

The senator aimed to commend West End School students and staff first hand with his visit, applauding the institution well on its way to brightening the futures of those its serves.
