LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - Each year the weather forecast is an important aspect of the Kentucky Oaks and Derby. The WAVE 3 Storm Tracking Team is keeping a close eye on this year's forecast and unfortunately it doesn't sound that great.

On Oaks and Derby rain and  cooler weather can be expected. The good news, there is time to start thinking about making some adjustments to what you may be wearing.

When you spend money to come to the Derby, you want to look good. Many people end up spending lots of money on an outfit, hat and shoes. The last thing you want is to be cold and wet. Remember, you can't bring umbrellas to the track. In 2013, there were major restrictions on what you could bring to the track, it's the same deal this year.

At Dress & Dwell in New Albany, they are getting their clients ready for Oaks and Derby from head to toe. Dressing for the occasion means planning.

"We have a rain coat, a really cute gingham rain coat, that can keep you dry covered and warm it also has a hood on the back," said Amanda Gibson, the owner of Dress & Dwell. "I threw on a blazer which is a great option.  On this mannequin, we've paired a little shawl or scarf. Something you can take along with you it's light weight you can still cover yourself and if by chance you get caught in the rain you can throw it over your head and keep your hat looking good as well."

Britni Knable is the designer for Headcandi. Because using a trash bag or a poncho as a hat protector will never be in fashion. She has an easy solution.

"If you take a garment bag and wrap it around the hat, that way if it's clear you can still show the pretty design of your hat and everything," said Knable. "Wrap it right up there and tuck it right under."

The open toed shoes may need to be replaced with rain boots. And don't forget your bag, it can't be too big. Any bag larger than 12 inches in any dimension will not be permitted. The small clutches have been a big hit.

"People have been buying them like crazy so, we've really found our customers are coming to us to find the whole look."
