LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – Louisville Metro Police say a man went shopping at the Highland Kroger store on Bardstown Road but didn’t pay for the merchandise he selected.

Travis Tyrone Stubbins, 47, was arrested at 2:30 p.m. April 30 after he left the store with more than $500 in merchandise in a shopping cart.

Store employees said Stubbins placed large quantities of meat, including chicken and ribeye steaks, in the bottom of a shopping cart before placing putting several heavy cases of drinks on top of them. The arrest report says Stubbins and a co-defendant bypassed the registers and walked out a side entrance.

When stopped, Stubbins said they had EBT cards and some cash that they were going to pay for the items with, but the arrest reports says it was nowhere close to the $514.37 in merchandise they had when leaving the store.

Stubbins was charged with theft by unlawful taking $500 or more.
