Friends and family gathered to honor the memory of a teenager shot and killed by a Boone County Sheriff's deputy.
This all goes back to April 26. Police say 19-year old Samantha Ramsey was ordered to stop her car as she was leaving a field party last weekend. Rather, officers say Ramsey allegedly struck the deputy with her vehicle. Fearing for his life, officers say the deputy fired four shots through the windshield.
Dozens of people showed up at First Baptist Church to pay tribute to the 19-year-old and remember her life on Friday.
"Her smile just lit up the room," said Courtney King.
Samantha Ramsey was on her way to a career in education. As a 2013 graduate of Covington Holmes High School, she most recently taught as a preschool teacher at Children's Inc.
"She was like a big sister to me so she kind of taught me right from wrong," adds King.
It was her personality that friends say they'll miss the most.
"She never saw a downside to any situation. She always wanted to make people smile and laugh," said Brendon Froehle.
For many, Ramsey's death is leaving more questions than answers. In a statement Deputy Tyler Brockman gave police, he described his actions as self defense and he feared for his life.
"Self defense, honestly I just think the cop overreacted with way too much force," said Froehle.
Those close to Ramsey say four shots was excessive, and her death could have been avoided.
"We want answers from the cop, obviously the dash cam doesn't show everything," said Froehle.
Now, friends and family say it's about coming together to get through this difficult time.
"Everyone has this mutual love for each other now and we're trying to come together so we can get her the justice she deserves," said King.
The funeral is Saturday morning at the First Baptist Church in Ludlow.
