Olympian sets record in Flying Pig 10K

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) -

Olympian Ryan Hall headlined the Saturday events at the 2014 Flying Pig Marathon by breaking the record in the Toyota 10K with a time of 30:32.

The American record holder in the half marathon, Hall, 31, from Big Bear Lake, California, led a field of 4,142. Finishing second in the Toyota 10K was Blake Meyer, 19, of Cincinnati (34:04) and third was Paul Odipo, 39, of Nairobi, Kenya (34:23).

In the women's 6.2 mile race, Taryn Surtees, 24 of Cincinnati won with a time of 38:58. In second place was Kaylee Rice, 15 of Liberty Township, OH (39:02) and third was Lauren Dullea, 33 of Cincinnati (39:49).

Total participants in the Toyota 10K were 4,142.

In the Tri-State Running Company 5K, 5,800 participants finished with Brett Frondorf, 20 of Cincinnati winning in a time of 17:57. Odipo finished in second (17:31) followed by Matt Motsinger, 34, (17:32).

Becky Clark, 27, won the women's race in 17:57, some 13 hours after defending her title in Friday's Little Kings Mile that she won in 5:06. Karen Berndt, 30, finished second (19:22) while Melanie Pliskin came in third (19:36).

Tomorrow at 6:30 a.m., the Flying Pig Marathon, Border Energy Half Marathon and 4-person relays go off from Mehring Way at Elm Street.
