BERKELEY COUNTY, SC (WCSC) -

Berkeley County officials say a woman who went missing last Thursday following a car chase with deputies has been found dead.

Major Rick Ollic with the Berkeley County Sheriff's Office says 52-year-old Laura Lynch was found dead in a wooded area near a crash site Monday afternoon.

According to investigators, 42-year-old Michael Anthony Browder and Lynch were involved in a chase Thursday morning that began in Mount Pleasant and ended in a wreck on Green Bay Road in Berkeley County. Lynch was a passenger in the vehicle.

Officials later found the wrecked Dodge Charger, but Browder, who was driving the car, and Lynch were not inside the vehicle. Investigators believed both occupants were able to get out of the car and run away.

Browder was arrested Sunday evening and took officers back to the crash site to look for Lynch. A helicopter, search dogs, and officers on foot and horseback were involved in the search, which ended with finding Lynch's body.

According to an incident report, the chase began after an officer spotted Browder acting "very nervous" while next to the officer's patrol car at a stop light on Highway 17. Browder then began to drive erratically, prompting the Mt. Pleasant officer to initiate a traffic stop.

Records state Browder has been charged with failure to stop for blue lights, habitual traffic offender, driving under suspension, unlawful transport of alcohol, and failure to comply. His bond has been set at $24,147.
