Photocopied badge ends with arrest of phony officer

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – A man pretending to be a police officer was arrested Derby Day morning after he tried to get a woman to give him a ride.

Ryan J. MacDonald, 27, of Louisville, is charged with impersonating a peace officer. His arrest report says MacDonald approached was woman telling her he was a police officer and showing her a photocopied Louisville Metro Police Department badge. When the woman said the badge looked fake and she didn't believe he was a police officer, MacDonald became aggressive and started shouting obscenities. The woman left and called police.

Officers found MacDonald still at the location of the original incident. When asked if he showed someone a badge and said he was a police officer, MacDonald he had done so because he needed a ride. According to the arrest report, MacDonald continued to say he told the woman he was a police officer and that it is "no big deal."

Metro police confiscated MacDonald's badge and placed it in the LMPD property room.
