LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - More than a million people visited downtown Louisville this past month.
They enjoyed themselves at Thunder Over Louisville, the Republic Bank Pegasus Parade, Oaks, Derby, Kroger's Fest-a-Ville on the Waterfront, Chow Wagons, Marathons and Mini-Marathons, the Great Bed Races and Steamboat Races, Balloon Fest, Beer Fest, WineFest, concerts, balls, the Basketball Classic, and many more uniquely Louisville events.
And none of them were stained by a criminal element.
We salute the extra police presence and prepared planning that ensured safety first.
We salute the officers who approached their work with a helping hand attitude that many people commented made a big difference in calming the concerns some had with participating in the fun this year, after the incidents before the Derby Festival at the Waterfront and the worries in the wake of them.
From the impressive Churchill Downs renovations punctuated by the terrific new video board unlike any other in the world, to the beautiful weather we were blessed to have for all of the big events, this year's Derby Festival season sparkled.
The many volunteers who had a hand in making this year outstanding deserve special applause as well!
The spotlight on Louisville returns in 90 days with the PGA championship.
Bring it on!
