JACKSON COUNTY, IN (WAVE) – The Jackson County Sheriff's Department is investigating after one of their officers was shot twice Thursday night.

According to Jackson County Sheriff Mike Carothers, Deputy Rick Meyer was driving on Highway 39 when he saw Alexandrew Mullikin trying to siphon gas.

Sheriff Carothers said Meyer stopped and was attempting to place handcuffs on Millikin when Isaiah Roger, 18, shot at Meyer, hitting him twice in the neck. Meyer returned fire and shot Roger several times.

Meyer was flown to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis where he was treated and released. Roger was also taken to an Indianapolis hospital, but his condition has not been released.

Mullakin was taken into custody. He is being held in the Jackson County Jail.
