From the University of Alabama Athletics Department:
NEW YORK - The University of Alabama had two players selected in the first round of the 2014 National Football League Draft Thursday evening at Radio City Music Hall.
The action got started at No. 17 when the Baltimore Ravens selected linebacker C.J. Mosley. It did not take long for the next Crimson Tide player to hear his named called as the Green Bay Packer took Ha Ha Clinton-Dix with the 21st choice. Former Alabama great Ozzie Newsome is the Ravens general manager and this marks the second year in a row the Packers have drafted an Alabama player.
The two first-round selections gives Alabama 13 first round picks in the last four drafts. In 2011, Marcell Dareus, Julio Jones, James Carpenter and Mark Ingram all went in round one while Trent Richardson, Mark Barron, Dre Kirkpatrick and Dont'a Hightower were taken in 2012. Dee Milliner, Chance Warmack and D.J. Fluker were taken in 2013. UA has now had 16 first-round picks during head coach Nick Saban's tenure at Alabama.
Clinton-Dix, a native of Orlando, Fla., was Alabama's starting free safety in 2012 and 2013. He finished his career with seven interceptions, 10 more pass breakups and 94 career tackles. Clinton-Dix made 46 tackles as a junior in 2013 with two interceptions and 1.5 tackles for loss in 10 games.
Mosley, from Mobile, was the centerpiece of the Alabama defense and a stalwart for the Crimson Tide over the last four years. He finished third in career tackles at the Capstone with 319 in 51 career games. Mosley had 23 career tackles for loss, 6.5 sacks, five interceptions and 19 pass breakups. As a senior in 2013, he recorded 108 tackles with 61 solo stops and nine tackles for low.
The second and third round of the NFL Draft continues on Friday evening from Radio City Music Hall in New York City with rounds 4-7 wrapping up the draft on Saturday.
