LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – Police arrested a man for leaving his 13-month-old in a car for an extended amount of time.
According to a police report, Michael Charles Oppedahl, 46, left his baby in the car while he went inside the Walgreens on Baxter Avenue to buy cigarettes around 10:45 Sunday night. Witnesses said he was gone for over 20 minutes.
One concerned witness went inside Walgreens and asked everyone if that was their vehicle and no one knew the owner. A witness reached inside the window that was left down and unlocked the car. The woman got the baby out to make sure he was okay and was holding the baby when Oppedahl exited the store.
Oppendahl got into the car and was about to drive off when the woman stopped him and confirmed the child belonged to him.
Police arrested Oppendahl because he had several bench warrants previously issued and officers didn't believe he would show up for court.
The child was uninjured and was released to the mother.
