1 of 2 arrested after gunfight in White Castle parking lot

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – A man charged with being involved in a gun battle in the parking lot of a fast food restaurant told police he was robbed while conducting a drug deal.

The gunfire broke out in the parking out of White Castle, 2711 Fern Valley Road, around 4:40 p.m. May 10. Police responded to 911 calls that two men were shooting at each other. When officers got to the scene, they saw Antonio W. Shelton, 25, sitting in his car with a Ruger handgun. Shelton told police he and a man unknown to him exchanged gunfire during a narcotics transaction.

Police said people were in the parking lot during while the shots were being fired. Two suffered minor injuries. One of the injured was a person taking a smoke break outside the restaurant; the other was Shelton's cousin who was in his vehicle. Both of their wounds were caused by ricochet.  

A search of Shelton's car turned up 710 prescription pills – 456 Lortabs, 244 Xanex and 10 Ecstasy – all package for sale, along with found was drug paraphernalia.

Shelton was booked on two counts of wanton endangerment, three counts of trafficking in a controlled substance and one count of trafficking in marijuana.

Police said a total of 19 shots were fired by the two men.
