Severe weather cuts commencement short

Posted: Updated:

NEW ALBANY, IN (WAVE) - A day students had been working toward for years was cut short by an unexpected burst of severe weather.

Graduation ceremonies for the Indiana University Southeast class of 2014 came to an abrupt end when the skies opened up over New Albany Monday afternoon.

The storm packed lighting and heavy winds, which sent graduates and families scrambling for shelter.

Even without the ceremony the university awarded more than 1,000 degrees.
