LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - The following closures and lane restrictions are expected the rest of this week in connection with construction on the Downtown Crossing and East End Crossing. Weather and unforeseen delays could change this schedule at any time. 

Downtown Crossing:

Work Currently Underway:

Louisville Streets:

  • Frankfort Avenue between Story Avenue and River Road is scheduled to be closed through Friday, May 23 for demolition work. Local access will be available between Story Avenue and Washington Street.
  • Jefferson Street from Jackson Street to Preston Street is scheduled to be closed through Saturday, May 17 to set beams.
  • One lane of Preston Street from Jefferson Street to Liberty Street is scheduled to be closed through Saturday, May 10 to set beams.
  • One lane of Liberty Street from Floyd Street to Preston Street is scheduled to be closed through Saturday, May 31 for bridge work.
  • Two lanes of Main Street between Hancock Street and Jackson Street are scheduled to be closed through Saturday, May 31 for bridge work.
  • Two lanes of Market Street between Preston Street and Floyd Street are scheduled to be closed through Saturday, May 31 for bridge work.

Work Scheduled for This Week:

Kentucky Side:

Work scheduled to begin Sunday, May 11:

  • The left lane of I-65 North from Muhammad Ali Boulevard to Wither spoon Street is scheduled to close Sunday, May 11 to allow crews to work between I-65 North and I-65 South. This will be a long-term closure, in place into 2015.
  • Two lanes of I-65 North from Muhammad Ali Boulevard to Witherspoon Street are scheduled to close Sunday, May 11 for re striping. They're expected to close around 7 p.m. and reopen by 3 a.m.
  • The ramp from I-65 North to Muhammad Ali Boulevard is scheduled to close overnight Sunday, May 11 for re striping. It's expected to close around 7 p.m. and reopen by 5 a.m. A signed detour will be in place.
  • The ramp from Liberty Street/Preston Street/Muhammad Ali Boulevard to I-65 North is scheduled to close overnight Sunday, May 11 for re striping. It's expected to close around 7 p.m. and reopen by 5 a.m. A signed detour will be in place.

Work scheduled to begin Monday, May 12:

  • The ramp from I-64 East to I-65 North is scheduled to close overnight Monday, May 12-Friday, May 16 for bridge decking. It's expected to close around 9 p.m. and reopen by 5 a.m. each day. A signed detour will be in place.
  • One lane of I-64 East from 9th Street to I-65 is scheduled to close overnight Monday, May 12-Friday, May 16 for bridge decking. It's expected to close around 9 p.m. and reopen by 5 a.m. each day.
  • The left lane of I-65 South from Witherspoon Street to Muhammad Ali Boulevard is scheduled to be closed overnight Monday, May 12 for pile driving. It's expected to close around 9 p.m. and reopen by 5 a.m.

Work scheduled to begin Tuesday, May 13:

  • One lane of I-71 South from Beargrass Creek to I-64 is scheduled to be closed overnight Tuesday, May 13-Saturday, May 17 for pile driving. It's expected to close around 9 p.m. and reopen by 5 a.m. each day.

Work scheduled to begin Wednesday, May 14:

  • One lane of the ramp from I-65 South to Jefferson Street is scheduled to be closed Wednesday, May 14-Friday, May 16 for re striping. Drivers will still be able to access both Jefferson Street and Brook Street. A full weekend closure of the ramp follows.
  • One lane of I-65 South from Witherspoon Street to Muhammad Ali Boulevard is scheduled to close overnight Wednesday, May 14 to install barrier wall. It's expected to close around 9 p.m. and reopen by 5 a.m.

Work scheduled for Thursday, May 15:

  • Rolling closures are expected project-wide Thursday, May 15 for pothole patching. Work is scheduled 10 a.m.-1 p.m.

Work scheduled to begin Friday, May 16:

  • The ramp from I-65 South to Jefferson Street is scheduled to be closed Friday, May 16-Sunday, May 18 for re striping. It's expected to close around 7 p.m. on Friday and reopen by 5 a.m. on Monday, May 19. A signed detour will be in place.

Louisville Streets:

Work scheduled to begin Sunday, May 11:

  • One lane of Preston Street from Jefferson Street to Liberty Street is scheduled to be closed Sunday, May 11-Saturday, May 31 for bridge work.

Indiana Side:

Work scheduled for Monday, May 12:

  • Court Avenue between Broadway Street and Indiana Avenue is scheduled to be closed overnight Monday, May 12 to set beams. It's expected to close around midnight and reopen by 5 a.m.

Continuing Closures and Restrictions:

Kentucky Side:

  • The ramp from I-64 East to I-65 South closed July 15 and is scheduled to be closed through the spring of 2016.
  • The right lane of I-65 South from the Jefferson Street ramp to Muhammad Ali Boulevard closed July 15 and is scheduled to be closed through 2016.

Indiana Side:

  • Broadway Street has closed from Court Avenue to 6th Street. This includes the closure of the 6th Street ramp to I-65 North. These are permanent closures.
  • 7th Street has closed from Missouri Avenue to Broadway Street. This is a permanent closure.
  • VFW Boulevard has closed from 7th Street to 9th Street. This is a permanent closure.
  • US 31-South (Exit Ramp 1) from Brown Station Way to Stansifer Avenue has been reduced to two lanes.
  • US 31-South, in the area just south of Stansifer Avenue, has been reduced to one lane. Vehicles are still able to exit onto 10th Street.
  • The northbound collector distributor ramp in Jeffersonville has been reduced to one lane between 10th Street and Stansifer Avenue. The closure will be in place through late 2015.
  • Missouri Avenue is closed between Court Avenue and S. Clark Boulevard for extensive utility work in the area. It's expected to remain closed into July 2014.
  • Lane restrictions are in place on the Indiana approach to the Clark Memorial Bridge. Traffic is reduced to one lane on US 31 South and US 31 North from just south of Court Avenue to the bridge. The restrictions are expected to be in place until early July, when the Clark Memorial Bridge is scheduled to close for about six weeks.
  • 9th Street from Indiana Avenue to just west of I-65 is closed for storm sewer work. It's expected to remain closed into May.
  • Drivers on I-65 North taking Exit 0 into downtown Jeffersonville will not be able to turn left onto Court Avenue because of ongoing road work in the area. The change is expected to be in place about two weeks. A signed detour is in place.

East End Crossing:

Indiana Side:

Lane restrictions on Upper River Road May 12-17:

There will be lane restrictions in Indiana on Upper River Road in the vicinity of the East End Crossing construction site May 12-17. Flaggers will be present during this time to assist in guiding traffic. Motorists are asked to use caution when in the area.

Lane restrictions on SR 62 May 12-14:

There will be lane restrictions on SR 62 in Indiana in the vicinity of the SR 265 and SR 62 interchange May 12-14, 2014. The lane restrictions will be in place for about a half mile in each direction of the interchange. Residents are asked to use caution and drive slowly when driving in the area during this time.

Brookhollow Way closed May 15, 2014 – November 15, 2014:

Brookhollow Way will be closed between the Boulder Creek and Brookhollow subdivisions from May 15, 2014 – November 15, 2014. Boulder Creek subdivision residents will need to utilize the temporary detour through the Crystal Springs subdivision to enter and exit their subdivision. Brookhollow subdivision residents will need to utilize Utica-Sellersburg Road to enter and exit their subdivision.

Utica-Sellersburg Road closed May 15, 2014 – November 25, 2014:

Utica-Sellersburg Road will be closed from just north of Shadow Brook Lane to just south of the Sundancer and Utica-Sellersburg Road intersection from May 15, 2014 – November 15, 2014. A designated detour will be in place for this closure.

Blasting schedule for week of May 12:

Blasting to prepare for the East End Crossing is scheduled to occur in Indiana, just east of Utica, between the Ohio River and Salem Road during the week of May 12, 2014. Prior to each blast, traffic must be stopped on Upper River Road for five to twenty minutes for the safety of the workers and the traveling public.

The dates and approximate times (within 15 minutes) will be:

  • Monday, May 12, at about 4:30 p.m.
  • Tuesday, May 13, at about 4:30 p.m.
  • Wednesday, May 14, at about 4:30 p.m.
  • Thursday, May 15, at about 4:30 p.m.
  • Friday, May 16, at about 4:30 p.m.

Blasting will also take place in Indiana in some fields, just north of the blasting location above – – the future site of the SR 265 extension. These blasts do NOT require traffic stops.

The dates and approximate times (within 15 minutes) will be:

  • Monday, May 12, at about 11:30 a.m. and again at about 5 p.m.
  • Tuesday, May 13, at about 11:30 a.m. and again at about 5 p.m.
  • Wednesday, May 14, at about 11:30 a.m. and again at about 5 p.m.
  • Thursday, May 15, at about 11:30 a.m. and again at about 5 p.m.
  • Friday, May 16, at about 11:30 a.m. and again at about 5 p.m.

Blasting will also occur on Brookhollow Road between the Boulder Creek and Brookhollow subdivisions. These blasts do NOT require traffic stops.

The dates and approximate times (within 15 minutes) will be:

  • Friday, May 16, at about 2 p.m.
  • Saturday, May 17, at about 2 p.m.

Kentucky Side:

Blasting schedule for week of May 12:

Blasting to prepare for the new tunnel in the east end of Louisville is scheduled to occur during the week of May 12, 2014.

Surface Blasting: Surface blasting, which began in June 2013 in the east end of Louisville near the intersection of U.S. 42 and KY 841, requires traffic stops. Surface blasting takes place Monday through Saturday during morning and afternoon hours. Prior to each blast, traffic must be stopped for five to twenty minutes for the safety of the workers and the traveling public. Traffic stops during the blasts will occur on KY 841 between Wolf Pen Branch Road and U.S. 42, and on U.S. 42 between Wolf Pen Branch Road and Bridgepointe Boulevard.

The dates and approximate times for surface blasting (within 15 minutes) will be:

  • Monday, May 12, at about 11:30 a.m. and again at about 2 :30 p.m.
  • Tuesday, May 13, at about 11:30 a.m. and again at about 2 :30 p.m.
  • Wednesday, May 14, at about 11:30 a.m. and again at about 2 :30 p.m.
  • Thursday, May 15, at about 11:30 a.m. and again at about 2 :30 p.m.
  • Friday, May 16, at about 11:30 a.m. and again at about 2:30 p.m.

Tunnel Blasting: Underground tunnel blasting, which began in January 2014, in the east end of Louisville near the intersection of U.S. 42 and KY 841, does NOT require traffic stops. This blasting takes place Monday through Saturday during morning and afternoon hours. The noise from blasts may be noticeable, but the blasts pose no risk to the traveling public and local residents. Construction for the underground tunnel requires 24-hour work activities Monday through Saturday, and will continue throughout 2014.

The dates and approximate times for tunnel blasting will be:

  • Monday, May 12, at about 6:45 a.m. and again at about 5 p.m.
  • Tuesday, May 13, at about 6:45 a.m. and again at about 5 p.m.
  • Wednesday, May 14, at about 6:45 a.m. and again at about 5 p.m.
  • Thursday, May 15, at about 6:45 a.m. and again at about 5 p.m.
  • Friday, May 16, at about 6:45 a.m. and again at about 5 p.m.

Surface Blasting will also take place at the north portal of the tunnel. The north portal is located in the vicinity of Shadow Wood Lane and Shadow Wood Drive. Prior to each blast, traffic must be stopped for five to twenty minutes for the safety of the workers and the traveling public.

The dates and approximate times for surface blasting (within 15 minutes) will be:

  • Monday, May 12, at about 3 p.m.
  • Tuesday, May 13, at about 3 p.m.

Surface Blasting is also scheduled to occur near the intersection of Springdale Road and Wolf Pen Branch Road. The surface blasting at this location began in April 2014. Prior to each blast, traffic must be stopped for five to twenty minutes for the safety of the workers and the traveling public. Traffic stops during the blasts will occur on Springdale Road at the Green Spring Drive intersection, and on Wolf Pen Branch Road from Wolfpen Woods Drive to Green Spring Drive.

The dates and approximate times for surface blasting (within 15 minutes) will be:

  • Monday, May 12, at about 11:30 a.m. and again at about 2 :30 p.m.
  • Tuesday, May 13, at about 11:30 a.m. and again at about 2:30 p.m.
  • Wednesday, May 14, at about 11:30 a.m. and again at about 2:30 p.m.
  • Thursday, May 15, at about 11:30 a.m. and again at about 2:30 p.m.
  • Friday, May 16, at about 11:30 a.m. and again at about 2:30 p.m.
