LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – A cell phone sale made through a popular online site resulted with man making the purchase facing charges and caused a standoff with police over the weekend.

According to an arrest warrant, Denny Gene Cary, Jr., 40, of Louisville, purchased the cell phone on February 1 from a woman who had placed it for sale on Craigslist. Cary paid for it with a check from his father's business. He told the woman that he and his father were in business together.

When the woman deposited the check, it failed to clear the bank.

Police interviewed Cary's father who said he had never issued the check that bounced and had reported the checks stolen from his home to the Hillview Police Department.

Cary was arrested May 11 at a home on Beechland Road for criminal possession of a forged instrument and several outstanding bench warrants. When police arrived at his home to arrest him, a standoff ensued when Cary refused to come out. After the Louisville Metro Police SWAT team was called in to assist Hillview officers, Cary surrendered without incident.
