Intoxicated driver found unconscious in car with toddler, drugs

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - An intoxicated woman was found unconscious behind the wheel of a car on Sunday, and she was accompanied by a child, according to police.

Officers and EMS were dispatched to 12981 Shelbyville Road around 9:15 Sunday morning on a report of an unconscious person in the driver's seat of a gray Honda with a child inside the vehicle.

Police found Heather L. Guthrie, 25, and 20-month-old boy in the car. An arrest report states Guthrie was holding a bag of pills that included hydrocodone and that a second bag containing Watson 853, a pain killer made of acetaminophen and hydrocodone, in the driver's seat.

Guthrie was revived with ammonia smelling salts, police said.

She told officers the pills were hers and that she did not have a prescription for them, according to her arrest report.

Investigators said Guthrie was unable to provide supervision for the child, who was strapped into a car seat and exposed to the sun and weather conditions.

Guthrie had two bench warrants for failure to appear in court, one in Jefferson County and the other in Oldham County.

Guthrie is charged with endangering the welfare of a minor, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and public intoxication.
