O'Connell emotional after winning primary

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – After getting 55 percent of the vote in the May 20 primary election Jefferson County Attorney Mike O'Connell spoke to a crowd of his supporters at O'Shea's.

With his wife, son and daughter, who is also an attorney, standing by his side O'Connell said the win was for his son who recently died.

"It is very difficult and for those that view this, that have lost a child know the feeling," said O'Connell. "But, uh, the love and affection that have been shown to us by so many friends and people are the things that have made my family be able to stand up and embrace each other and go forward."

O'Connell received 31,906 votes against his opponent, Karen Faulkner, who received 26,085 votes. He promised to keep fighting against domestic violence, drunk driving and those who fail to pay child support.
