LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – Police say a man driving in the wrong lane on Algonquin Parkway flipped his car while trying to avoid a police car. After he was removed from the wreck, police found drugs packaged for sale in the car, according to his arrest report.

Because the incident occurred near McFerran Elementary School, Steven Johnson, 26, is charged with trafficking in a controlled substance within 1,000 feet of a school, wanton endangerment involving a police officer and driving without a license.

The officer had stopped and turned on his lights in an attempt to warn the driver that he was in the wrong lane. The car swerved off the road, hit two trees and flipped onto its side. The officer told Johnson to remain still until the fire department arrived, but said that Johnson instead "frantically searched" the passenger side of the car.

The report says that police found crack cocaine under the passenger floorboard packaged as if for sale.
