LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – Louisville Metro Police say a woman left her children, ages 3 and 2, inside her car while she was getting a wax job.

Courtney B. Kippes, 22, was arrested May 21 after the children were discovered inside the unlocked car parked in the 2800 block of Frankfort Avenue with the windows cracked. When found, the children were hot to the touch and sweaty. The temperature at the time was 84 degrees with a heat index of 87.

Both children were taken to Kosair Children's Hospital for treatment.

While police were trying to identify the owner of the vehicle, they found a pill bottle with Kippes name on it that contained a crushed pill and a straw. Kippes returned to the car shortly after from a nearby salon and was placed under arrest.

Kippes is charged with wanton endangerment, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. The warrant says Kippes told police she was fine with leaving the children in the car while inside the salon.
