Two accused of stealing copper from Mellwood Arts Center

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – Two men are accused of stealing copper worth approximately $20,000 from Mellwood Arts Center and causing $5,000 in damage in the process.

On May 22, Nicholas Hammond, 33, and James Terry, 43, used a trailer winch to pull copper wiring out of a pipe, damaging the wire and the pipe, according to police. The wiring was a part of the center's geothermal heating and cooling system.

Both men are charged with theft and criminal mischief.
