New police chief, deputy chief appointed by New Albany mayor

NEW ALBANY, IN (WAVE) - A new police chief and deputy chief have been appointed within the New Albany Police Department.

In a press release Saturday afternoon, Mayor Jeff Gahan announced the replacements for former chief Sherri Knight and former deputy chief Greg Pennell after they resigned from their posts Tuesday and asked to be reassigned.

According to the release, the mayor appointed Sergeant Todd Bailey to the position of Chief of Police. Bailey has been with the force for 17 years and served as the chief just before Knight took the position.

Chief of Detectives Kenneth Fudge, also a 17-year veteran, was appointed to the position of Deputy Chief.

"Chief Bailey is an experienced leader in the New Albany Police Department, and Assistant Chief Fudge is a highly respected veteran of the Department," stated Mayor Jeff Gahan in the release. "I have confidence that they will handle operations within the New Albany Police Department with professionalism and integrity."
