LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - A 9-year-old boy found at the bottom of a swimming pool at the Crescent Hill home of former NFL player and St. X football coach Will Wolford on Saturday has died, according to Louisville Metro Police.

An ambulance rushed the child to Kosair Children's Hospital after someone at the Wolfords' home on Waterleaf Way made a call to 911 around 3 p.m. on Saturday.

Late Sunday night, the Wolford family issued a statement about the boy's death.

"The Wolford family is devastated by this weekend's tragedy," the statement reads. "Our thoughts and prayers go out to [the child's] family as they deal with unimaginable grief."

According to Dwight Mitchell, a spokesman for Louisville Metro Police, the LMPD Homicide Unit is conducting a death investigation, which is routine in this type of situation.
