NEW ALBANY, IN (WAVE) – One of three people facing charges in the arson fire that killed three New Albany children and left a fourth with severe burns has been sentenced.

Makowsky admitted that she was with Cody Cashion, also 18, Kylie Jenks, 19, and a 17-year-old girl on January 4 when Cashion fired a flare gun into a house on Ealy Street during the early morning hours of January 4.

The flare sparked a fire that killed Trinity Hughes, age 2, Tyrese Hughes, age 4, and Tai'zah Hughes, age 6. The children's sister, Tatyana Hughes, age 5, was rescued by firefighters. She survived the fire but was left with serious burns. The children were with their mother who was visiting the home of a friend. They were asleep in a bedroom when the flare was fired into the house.
