Rescue crews work to free drivers from flooding

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – Emergency crews rescued several vehicles from floodwaters and shut down a street due to water in downtown Louisville Thursday night.

According to MetroSafe, calls about drivers who were stuck near the intersection of 3rd Street and Eastern Parkway starting coming in around 9:35 p.m. Thursday. Shortly after, drivers were also reported to be caught in floodwaters near the intersection of South Floyd and Hill Streets and 3rd Street and Winkler Avenue.

Crews also shut down the 1500 block of Shelby Street due to water.

Drivers who encounter high waters are advised to "turn around, don't drown," meaning drive away from the water and find an alternate route.

The National Weather Service in Louisville issued a Flash Flood Warning for Jefferson County that expired at midnight.
