Police arrest man for staging wreck to get insurance money

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – Louisville Metro Police have charged another person with being part of a ring that deliberately crashed rental trucks to collect on the insurance.

Andre Tyson Billingslea, 26, was arrested May 29 for staging a crash two months earlier.

On March 28, police said Billingslea, along with Stacy Todd, rented a U-Haul truck and purchased the supplemental insurance. The truck was then deliberately crashed into another car. After the crash claims to the insurance company for U-Haul amounted to more than $70,000. Additional claims were also made to Allstate, the insurer of the car involved.

Billingslea gave police a recorded statement saying the crash was deliberately staged. He is charged with one count of committing fraudulent insurance acts.
