HARRISON COUNTY, IN (WAVE) - A teenage boy was killed when an all-terrain vehicle hit two trees and overturned near New Salisbury in Harrison County on Saturday. A second teen was injured.
The driver of the ATV was traveling north on Tee Road around 5:30 p.m. Saturday when the vehicle ran off the west side of the roadway, hit a tree, causing the vehicle to flip, according to Officer Kyle Reas with the Harrison County Sheriff's Department.
"When the vehicle flipped, it went on across the roadway and struck another tree on the east side of the roadway," said Reas.
The passenger, a 17-year-old boy, was pronounced dead on the scene by the Harrison County Coroner's Office. The 19-year-old driver was taken to Harrison County Hospital with a non-life-threatening head injury and road rash, Reas said. The driver was conscious and alert when Reas arrived on the scene about five minutes after he was called to the scene.
The cause of the crash is under investigation. Reas said it was too early to know whether speed may have played a role in the crash.
