LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - The following traffic closures and restrictions are scheduled this week for construction on the new Downtown and East End Crossings.

Downtown Crossing:

Work Currently Underway:

Louisville Streets:

  • Frankfort Avenue between Story Avenue and River Road is scheduled to be closed through Tuesday, July 1 for work in the area. Local access will be available between Story Avenue and Washington Street.
  • Jefferson Street from Jackson Street to Preston Street is scheduled to be closed through Friday, June 13 for bridge work. A signed detour will be in place.
  • Hancock Street from Main Street to Washington Street is scheduled to be closed through Saturday, May 31 for demolition work in the area. A signed detour will be in place.
  • One lane of Preston Street from Jefferson Street to Liberty Street is scheduled to be closed through Monday, June 30 for bridge work.
  • One lane of Liberty Street from Floyd Street to Preston Street is scheduled to be closed through Monday, June 30 for bridge work.
  • Two lanes of Main Street between Hancock Street and Jackson Street are scheduled to be closed through Monday, June 30 for bridge work.
  • Two lanes of Market Street between Preston Street and Floyd Street are scheduled to be closed through Monday, June 30 for bridge work.

Work Scheduled for This Week:

Kentucky Side:

Work Scheduled to begin Monday, June 2:

  • The ramp from I-64 East to I-65 North is scheduled to close overnight Monday, June 2 and Tuesday, June 3 for overhead bridge work. It's expected to close around 9 p.m. and reopen by 5 a.m. both days. A signed detour will be in place.
  • The ramp from I-64 West to I-65 is scheduled to close overnight Monday, June 2-Thursday, June 5 for pile driving. It's expected to close around 9 p.m. and reopen by 5 a.m. each day. A signed detour will be in place.
  • The ramp from Story Avenue to I-64 West is scheduled to close overnight Monday, June 2-Thursday, June 5 for pile driving. It's expected to close around 9 p.m. and reopen by 5 a.m. each day. A signed detour will be in place.
  • Only one lane of I-64 West from the Story Avenue ramp to the I-65 split is scheduled to be open overnight Monday, June 2-Thursday, June 5 for pile driving. Lane closures are expected to begin around 9 p.m. and end by 5 a.m. each day.
  • One lane of I-64 East from 3rd Street to I-65 is scheduled to close overnight Monday, June 2 and Tuesday, June 3 for overhead bridge work. It's expected to close around 9 p.m. and reopen by 5 a.m. both days.
  • One lane of I-71 North from I-64 to Frankfort Avenue is scheduled to close overnight Monday, June 2-Wednesday, June 4 for bridge work and to set beams. It's expected to close around 9 p.m. and reopen by 5 a.m. each day.
  • One lane of I-71 South from Beargrass Creek to I-64 is scheduled to close overnight Monday, June 2-Wednesday, June 4 to drive pile and set beams. It's expected to close around 9 p.m. and reopen by 5 a.m. each day.

Work scheduled to begin Tuesday, June 3:

  • The ramp from I-64 East to I-71 North is scheduled to close overnight Tuesday, June 3-Sunday, June 8 to prepare for a traffic switch. It's expected to close around 9 p.m. and reopen by 5 a.m. each day. A signed detour will be in place.

Work scheduled for Thursday, June 5

  • Rolling closures are expected project-wide Thursday, June 5 for pothole patching. Work is scheduled 10 a.m.-1 p.m.

Work scheduled to begin Friday, June 6:

  • One lane of I-64 East from the Kennedy Bridge to the I-64/I-71 split is scheduled to close overnight Friday, June 6-Sunday, June 8 to prepare for a traffic switch. It's scheduled to close around 9 p.m. and reopen by 5 a.m. each day. A signed detour will be in place.

Work scheduled for Sunday, June 8:

  • The ramp from I-65 South/I-65 North to I-64 East is scheduled to close overnight Sunday, June 8 to prepare for a traffic switch. It's expected to close around 9 p.m. and reopen by 5 a.m. A signed detour will be in place.

Louisville Streets:

Work scheduled to begin Monday, June 2:

  • Witherspoon Street from Adams Street to River Road is scheduled to be closed Monday, June 2-Friday, June 20 for demolition work. A signed detour will be in place.

Continuing Closures and Restrictions:

Kentucky Side:

  • The ramp from I-64 East to I-65 South closed July 15, 2013 and is expected to be closed through the spring of 2016.
  • I-65 North from Muhammad Ali Boulevard to Witherspoon Street has been reduced from three through lanes of traffic to two, with the right lane a mandatory exit to Muhammad Ali Boulevard. The lane reduction is expected to continue into 2015.
  • The right lane of I-65 South from the Jefferson Street ramp to Muhammad Ali Boulevard closed July 15, 2013 and is expected to be closed through 2016.

Indiana Side:

  • Broadway Street has closed from Court Avenue to 6th Street. This includes the closure of the 6th Street ramp to I-65 North. These are permanent closures.
  • 7th Street has closed from Missouri Avenue to Broadway Street. This is a permanent closure.
  • VFW Boulevard has closed from 7th Street to 9th Street. This is a permanent closure.
  • US 31-South (Exit Ramp 1) from Brown Station Way to Stansifer Avenue has been reduced to two lanes.
  • US 31-South, in the area just south of Stansifer Avenue, has been reduced to one lane. Vehicles are still able to exit onto 10th Street.
  • The northbound collector distributor ramp in Jeffersonville has been reduced to one lane between 10th Street and Stansifer Avenue. The closure will be in place through late 2015.
  • Missouri Avenue is closed between Court Avenue and S. Clark Boulevard for extensive utility work in the area. It's expected to remain closed into July 2014.
  • Lane restrictions are in place on the Indiana approach to the Clark Memorial Bridge. Traffic is reduced to one lane on US 31 South and US 31 North from just south of Court Avenue to the bridge. The restrictions are expected to be in place until early July, when the Clark Memorial Bridge is scheduled to close for about six weeks.
  • 9th Street from Indiana Avenue to just west of I-65 is closed for setting beams and bridge work. It's expected to reopen in early June.

East End Crossing:

Indiana Side:

Lane restrictions on SR 62 June 2-6:

There will be lane restrictions on SR 62 in Indiana in the vicinity of the SR 265 and SR 62 interchange June 2-6, 2014 from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.. The lane restrictions will be in place for about a half mile in each direction of the interchange. Residents are asked to use caution and drive slowly when driving in the area during this time.

Blasting schedule for week of June 2, 2014:

 Blasting to prepare for the East End Crossing is scheduled to occur in Indiana, just east of Utica, between the Ohio River and Salem Road during the week of June 2, 2014. These blasts will NOT require traffic stops this week.

The dates and approximate times (within 15 minutes) will be:

  • Monday, June 2, at about 4:30 p.m.
  • Tuesday, June 3, at about 4:30 p.m.
  • Wednesday, June 4, at about 4:30 p.m.
  • Thursday, June 5, at about 4:30 p.m.
  • Friday, June 6, at about 4:30 p.m.

Blasting will also take place in Indiana in some fields, just north of the blasting location above – – the future site of the SR 265 extension. These blasts do NOT require traffic stops.

The dates and approximate times (within 15 minutes) will be:

  • Monday, June 2, at about 11:30 a.m.
  • Tuesday, June 3, at about 11:30 a.m.
  • Wednesday, June 4, at about 11:30 a.m.
  • Thursday, June 5, at about 11:30 a.m.
  • Friday, June 6, at about 11:30 a.m.

Blasting will also occur on Brookhollow Road between the Boulder Creek and Brookhollow subdivisions. These blasts do NOT require traffic stops.

The dates and approximate times (within 15 minutes) will be:

  • Monday, June 2, at about 2 p.m.
  • Tuesday, June 3, at about 2 p.m.
  • Wednesday, June 4, at about 2 p.m.
  • Thursday, June 5, at about 2 p.m.
  • Friday, June 6, at about 2 p.m.

Kentucky Side:

Blasting schedule for week of June 2, 2014:

Blasting to prepare for the new tunnel in the east end of Louisville is scheduled to occur during the week of June 2, 2014.

Surface Blasting: Surface blasting, which began in June 2013 in the east end of Louisville near the intersection of U.S. 42 and KY 841, requires traffic stops. Surface blasting takes place Monday through Saturday during morning and afternoon hours. Prior to each blast, traffic must be stopped for five to twenty minutes for the safety of the workers and the traveling public. Traffic stops during the blasts will occur on KY 841 between Wolf Pen Branch Road and U.S. 42, and on U.S. 42 between Wolf Pen Branch Road and Bridgepointe Boulevard.

The dates and approximate times for surface blasting (within 15 minutes) will be:

  • Monday, June 2, at about 11:30 a.m. and again at about 2:30 p.m.
  • Tuesday, June 3, at about 11:30 a.m. and again at about 2:30 p.m.
  • Wednesday, June 4, at about 11:30 a.m. and again at about 2:30 p.m.
  • Thursday, June 5, at about 11:30 a.m. and again at about 2:30 p.m.
  • Friday, June 6, at about 11:30 a.m. and again at about 2:30 p.m.

Tunnel Blasting: Underground tunnel blasting, which began in January 2014, in the east end of Louisville near the intersection of U.S. 42 and KY 841, does NOT require traffic stops. This blasting takes place Monday through Saturday during morning and afternoon hours. The noise from blasts may be noticeable, but the blasts pose no risk to the traveling public and local residents. Construction for the underground tunnel requires 24-hour work activities Monday through Saturday, and will continue throughout 2014.

The dates and approximate times for tunnel blasting will be:

  • Monday, June 2, at about 6:45 a.m. and again at about 5 p.m.
  • Tuesday, June 3, at about 6:45 a.m. and again at about 5 p.m.
  • Wednesday, June 4, at about 6:45 a.m. and again at about 5 p.m.
  • Thursday, June 5, at about 6:45 a.m. and again at about 5 p.m.
  • Friday, June 6, at about 6:45 a.m. and again at about 5 p.m.

Surface Blasting will also take place at the north portal of the tunnel. The north portal is located in the vicinity of Shadow Wood Lane and Shadow Wood Drive. Prior to each blast, traffic must be stopped for five to twenty minutes for the safety of the workers and the traveling public.

The dates and approximate times for surface blasting (within 15 minutes) will be:

  • Monday, June 2, at about 3 p.m.
  • Tuesday, June 3, at about 3 p.m.
  • Wednesday, June 4, at about 3 p.m.
  • Thursday, June 5, at about 3 p.m.
  • Friday, June 6, at about 3 p.m.

Surface Blasting is also scheduled to occur near the intersection of Springdale Road and Wolf Pen Branch Road. The surface blasting at this location began in April 2014. Prior to each blast, traffic must be stopped for five to twenty minutes for the safety of the workers and the traveling public. Traffic stops during the blasts will occur on Springdale Road at the Green Spring Drive intersection, and on Wolf Pen Branch Road from Wolfpen Woods Drive to Green Spring Drive.

The dates and approximate times for surface blasting (within 15 minutes) will be:

  • Monday, June 2, at about 11:30 a.m. and again at about 2:30 p.m.
  • Tuesday, June 3, at about 11:30 a.m. and again at about 2:30 p.m.
  • Wednesday, June 4, at about 11:30 a.m. and again at about 2:30 p.m.
  • Thursday, June 5, at about 11:30 a.m. and again at about 2:30 p.m.
  • Friday, June 6, at about 11:30 a.m. and again at about 2:30 p.m.
