HARRISON COUNTY, IN (WAVE) - The school year at Floyd Central High School is coming to a close on a very sad note after a student was killed in a crash.

Chase Brannon, 17, was a junior at Floyd Central High School. The crash happened Saturday, on Tee Road, north east of Corydon in Harrison County. Police said Chase was the passenger in an off road vehicle. His 19-year-old friend was the driver.

Chase's Aunt, Linda Anderson, came out to the scene on Monday.

"He was in his own ATV from what I understand and it broke down his friend gave him a ride," said Anderson.

They somehow lost control, hit a tree and flipped. Chase died at the scene, the 19-year-old went to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Students held a memorial service for Chase Monday morning at the school. His classmates were heartbroken over his death.

"The kids all know each other and so they do pull together and I think that's a source of strength for them," said FCHS principal Janie Whaley.

Whaley said Chase was known for his smile.

"He was just a really likable kid," said Whaley. "He was just funny, good sense of humor, big smile, just everybody's friend."

A life lost so young, Anderson placed a cross where Chase died.

"Want everyone to know an angel passed here," said Anderson.

Tuesday is the last day of school at FCHS. Counselors were on hand to help students cope.

The Harrison County Sheriff's Office is investigating the crash.

Visitation services for Chase will take place Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Kraft Funeral Service, located on Charlestown Road, in New Albany. His funeral will be held Thursday at Northside Christian Church.
