DENVER, CO, June 03, 2014 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Troy Widgery has always been drawn to extreme sports, and has also shown considerable business acumen by founding two successful companies. He has combined these to produce the Go Fast Jet Pack, which may one day become the first jet pack made available to the consumer market.
By the time he was a teenager, Troy Widgery was thinking about the possibility of a career as a movie stuntman. He was also thinking about jumping out of planes. He had raced quarter midget cars as young as four years old, and was good enough to win not just races but championships. He was raced motorcycles. "I was fifteen, and I was trying to learn all different sports, and skydiving was one of them," he says today.
loved skydiving, and he was good at it. He was also good at business. Within a few years, when he was a student at the University of Colorado, he founded Sky Systems, a company that made skydiving helmets and other accessories. Sky Systems was a big success, and very quickly became the industry leader.
It all very nearly came to a tragic end for Troy Widgery. And for sixteen others, it did. While on a training jump in April 1993, the plane carrying Troy Widgery and twenty one others crashed just after taking off from a field in Southern California. They were training for the U.S. Skydiving championships, but something went terribly wrong.
"It was bad fuel," Troy Widgery
says today. "The pilot feathered the wrong engine...down-wind take off...and so we were probably three hundred feet up when the plane nosedived in. I remained conscious for the most part, other than right at impact. They estimate that we hit at six G's of force. There were twenty-two people on the plane, and sixteen people died. Six of us lived."
Such a horrifying experience might have stopped others, but not Troy Widgery. Once he recovered, he resumed his active lifestyle, including skydiving. Then, in 1996, he founded a new company called Go Fast. At first, Go Fast manufactured sports clothing, but eventually it added the Go Fast Energy Drink to its product line, and the company became the Go Fast Sports and Beverage Company. But there remained at least one more thing to achieve.
Troy Widgery had always wanted to fly. Not just skydive, but to actually fly. He had been dreaming about it since he saw Agent 007 escape from the bad guys using a jet pack, in the James Bond Movie Thunderball. "Ever since I saw that movie, I wanted a Jet Pack."
turned his resources on to developing a jet pack, and the result was the Go Fast Jet Pack. The Go Fast Jet Pack works better than any other jet pack: it has set records for speed and distance flights, and has thrilled spectators by flying across Colorado's Royal Gorge, and by flying in front of the world's tallest building in Dubai. It hasn't happened yet, but the Go Fast Jet Pack may one day be available to consumers.
"Go Fast adopted the philosophy that the Go Fast Lifestyle isn't limited to the sky, but applies to the earth, the asphalt and the water too," Troy Widgery says with pride. "Go Fast then expanded to include athletes of all sorts, and became what it remains today: The Athlete's Energy Brand."
