Vote concerning transgender students and restrooms held at JCPS high school

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – A vote regarding the use of restrooms by transgender students at a Jefferson County Public High School was held during a meeting Tuesday evening.

Students, parents, teachers and school officials all attended the meeting held at Atherton High School where the site based decision making council voted 9-1 in favor of allowing a student was is genetically a male, but identifies as a female, to use the girl's restroom.

Dawn Wilson, with the Human Rights Commission, said, "This would never happened in my day and time, but now we are seeing a lot of people coming to a realization that they can express themselves and let people know who they really and truly are."

Atherton will now model its policy after the Los Angeles school district.
