BEIJING (CNN) – This week marks the 25th anniversary of the Tiananmen Square massacre in central Beijing.

On June 3-4, 1989, the Communist Chinese Army slaughtered mostly college students who had been demonstrating for democracy for weeks in the square.

No one knows exactly how many people died that night, but estimates range from several hundred to thousands.

It's also estimated as many as 10,000 people were arrested during and after the protests.
