School staff alert police about gun in park

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – Police made an arrest when an elementary school staff member called about a group of juveniles with a handgun nearby.

The principal of Phyllis Wheatley Elementary told officers a member of his staff saw a young man in California Park with a gun. The group of juveniles seemed to be fighting.

According to the police report, officers investigated the area and questioned the group. One man, Travis Lester, 19, began to walk away. Police asked him to stop and he balled his fist as if he was going to punch at an officer.

Lester resisted arrest and in the scuffle caused injury to one officer. He is being charged with assault, menacing and resisting arrest.
