Vela De Vino, Spanish for "wine candle," is a homemade candle making business owned by a local husband and wife from West Chester Township.
Owners Jenny and Joe Gutman take recycled wine, beer, and glass bottles then cut and fill them to make a soy wax candle. Make your own candle at home with these detailed instructions provided by Jenny.
You can also find Vela de Vino candles in several local shops, including two Whole Foods, Sara's House in Hamilton and the Party Source.
You will need the following:
Choose Your Wax
Protect your work area before you begin.
Melt Your Wax
Cool Melted Wax
Prepare Your Candle Container
Add Fragrance to Wax (If Desired)
Carefully pour wax into candle container.
Allow candle to settle and cool, preferably overnight.
Trim wick to about 1/2" before lighting.
Burn your candle for at least one hour after you light it the first time. This ensures that the wax will burn evenly.
