LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – Louisville Metro Police have charged a man with multiple counts of robbery in which his targets were women.

The warrants say between April 21 and May 6, Darnell Andrew Estep, 34, committed the robberies by force or at gunpoint in the parking lot in the 3400 block of Newburg Road. He is also facing charges in the armed robbery of a woman on Mother's Day in the parking lot of a church in the 3700 block of Taylorsville Road.

After the Mother's Day robbery, Estep was captured on surveillance video at a Kroger on South Third Street using the woman's credit cards to buy cigarettes. Several other attempts by Estep to use his victim's credit cards at the store were declined.

On each occasion, police say Estep was driving the same car, a silver Chevrolet Cavalier. Both Estep and the car were recorded on surveillance video. The car is registered to Estep's girlfriend.

According to the warrants, Estep has nine previous felony convictions in Laurel, Whitley and Rockcastle counties and is currently on parole.

Estep is being held at Louisville Metro Corrections on nine counts of robbery, three counts of being a persistent felony offender, one count of purse snatching, possession of a handgun by a convicted felon and other charges.
