Thousands mourn and celebrate the life of Maya Angelou

(CNN) - The inside of Wait Chapel is now filled with hymns, joyful memories and stories. Nearly 2200 people are focusing on celebrating the life and legacy of Dr. Maya Angelou.

The world is mourning the loss of the beloved poet, who passed away on May 28.

 Loved ones, admirers and celebrities will honor her life and her achievements.

"I'll see what the end is gonna be," Angelou once said.

Throughout her life,  Angelou played many roles: singer, actor, writer, civil rights activist and globally celebrated poet.

Her writing tells the story of her varied struggles and many triumphs.

Saturday, people from all walks of life descended on Wake Forest University where Angelou taught and inspired as a professor.

First Lady Michelle Obama....Oprah Winfrey...they're two key figures expected to speak at Saturday memorial.

Angelou's incredible life and career came to an end when she died at the age of 86, but her soul lives on in the word she left behind.
