LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – A man driving on the Gene Snyder Freeway reported to police that he didn't see anyone nearby when he heard a loud "pop" and realized he had been shot.

Detectives believe he was struck by a bullet from a large caliber handgun, according to Alicia Smiley, Public Information Officer for the Louisville Metro Police Department.

The victim's injuries were minor, and he has been released from the hospital. Two children were also in the car, but they were not injured, Smiley said.

According to MetroSafe, the incident occurred near Preston Highway and Smyrna Parkway around 5:15 p.m. on June 7.

Investigators say the bullet entered through passenger-side door and struck the man in the arm and upper torso.

No witnesses have been found. Anyone with information is asked to call the Crimetip Hotline at 574-LMPD (5673).
