Plane from Westfield in restricted airspace in Washington, DC

WASHINGTON, D.C. (WSHM) -

Authorities said two F-16 fighter jets escorted a small airplane out of restricted airspace in the nation's capital on Saturday afternoon.

That plane had taken off from Barnes Regional Airport in Westfield, MA.

The plane caused evacuations at the U.S. Capitol, the Supreme Court and the Library of Congress.

NORAD officials said the jets escorted the plane to Mount Airy, NC, where it landed safely.

Secret Service then interviewed the pilot.

According to the TSA, it appears the pilot was just confused.

Authorities said the evacuations happened around 1:30 p.m.
