Vigil held for 6-year-old dog attack victim

WESTWOOD, OH (FOX19) -

A six year old girl is still recovering in the hospital after a gruesome dog attack last week.

Zainabou Drame remains in critical but stable condition at Children's Hospital where she's in a medically induced coma.

Monday, her family and friends held a vigil at the Western Hill Brethren in Christ Church, just a couple blocks from where the incident happened in Westwood.

Last Wednesday, Zaina was out playing with her brother when two pit bulls attacked the six year old. Zaina's family say parts of her face and tongue were ripped off by the dogs. Doctors performed multiple surgeries and aren't sure if she'll ever talk again.

But friends and family say it's about praying for a miracle. They say it's time to pray for community healing, and rejoice that Zaina's still alive.

"We would just like to thank the community for everything that you've done and ask you to continue to pray not only for our family but for the family who own the dogs. The Lord knows they need it," said Zainabou's Aunt.

"This could have been any of our daughters, or any of our child, so our heart has been touched by the situation," said Bishop Bobby Hilton.

A Facebook page has been set up in Zaina's name, it's called Zainabou's Voice. You can show your support for her and check out updates on her condition here.

Police say charges are still pending against the owner of the two dogs. Homicide units are assisting in the case.
